Theodore "Ted" Hochhalter, 81, of Lodi died March 1 at a local hospital after a short illness. He was born Feb. 12, 1911, in Wilton, N.D.
Mr. Hochhalter moved to Lodi in 1936 from North Dakota, where he had been a farmer and barber and where he had married Ruth Wahl on Oct. 1, 1933. He lived in Woodland from 1940 to 1949 while working for the Woodland Nut Company.
He returned to Lodi in 1949 and bought the Stone Nut Company, later the Lodi Nut Company. He retired in 1978 but remained with the firm as a consultant.
Mr. Hochhalter was a member of the Vinewood Community Church and had been chairman of the church's building committee.
His pastimes were woodworking, fishing and restoring antiques.
He was preceded in death by five brothers and three sisters.
Mr. Hochhalter is survived by his wife, Ruth Hochhalter of Lodi; two daughters; five grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
