SOUTH BEND – Theora L. Anglemyer-Swartzlander, 100, passed away at 4:20 PM Saturday, December 6, 2014 at the Sanctuary of St. Paul’s Healthcare Center.
Theora was born on June 14, 1914 in Nappanee to the late David and Lilly (Housour) Holderman.
On October 17, 1937 in South Bend, she was united in marriage to Karl Anglemyer. Karl and Theora were married for 57 years. He has preceded her in death. On September 3, 2000 she married Harold Swartzlander, who also preceded her in death in 2001. Theora attended business college in South Bend. For many years, she worked at Associates Company and at F&S Transit Company. She also worked at the Osteopathic Hospital; and served as secretary for the Chief of the South Bend Fire Department. She cherished her role as a homemaker. She was a wonderful seamstress, enjoyed repairing dolls and making doll clothes. Theora was the most loving and caring woman who loved her family with all of her heart. She was always positive and never had anything bad to say about anyone. She was a member of the River Park United Methodist Church, South Bend.
Theora is survived by her daughter, Susan Firth of Sun City, AZ; daughter-in-law, Caroline Anglemyer of Mishawaka; 2 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild. She was preceded in death by her son; David Anglemyer; and her sister, Frances Marthens.
Funeral services for Theora will be 1:00 PM Wednesday, December 10, 2014 at Palmer Funeral Home – River Park, 2528 Mishawaka Ave., South Bend, IN 46615, with two hours of visitation prior to funeral services. Entombment will follow at Riverview Cemetery, South Bend. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Legion Post 303, 2503 Mishawaka Ave., South Bend, IN 46615.
