Fritz William Beck was born September 23, 1872 in Fredrikshavn, Denmark to Peter Jacobsen Beck and Ane Marie Rasmussen. On April 10, 1895 he married Christine Carol Svendson. They had ten children: William Bernhard Beck, Anna Christine Beck Suhr, Catherine Olga Beck Ibsen, Freda I. Beck Jensen, 'Svend' Peter Beck, Mary 'Marie" Caroline Beck Jensen, Carl 'Sydney" Theodore Beck, Hobart Jacob Daniel Beck, Oscar Francis Beck, and Emma Matilda Beck Boyer.

In 1906 Fritz "William" decided to move to the United States and settled in Beverly, Massachusetts. Later that same year he persuaded his brother, Jacob, to also immigrate. The two brothers worked at the United Shoe Factory in Beverly. Later, William became a grocer in Beverly and joked that "all the ones who worked in the store ate him out of business!".

Fritz William Beck was naturalized on July 14, 1913 in Essex, Salem, Massachusetts.

Fritz William went to Detroit, Michigan in 1919 where he worked for Ternstedt Mfg. as a tool and die maker. His daughter "couldn't remember a time when we didn't have a table full of boarders and roomers. Any Dane coming to the U.S. must have been told to go to the Becks".

He was a member of the Danish Brotherhood and was well liked in the Danish circles in Detroit. " At one point during prohibition he operated a "blind pig" against the rules, but his excuse was that it was for his countrymen. Oscar and I had the dubious honor of filling and capping all the beer and our only salvation was that we were allowed a crock full of root beer for ourselves."
