Beginning in the early 1900s, Orville was a private in the U.S. Army and was hospitalized in 1903 in San Francisco, California.

Orville was born in Detroit and spent his teenage years in Toledo, Ohio (3163 Maplewood Avenue). He then lived in California and Vancouver while he was in the army. As of 1920, he was living with his children and second wife in Oregon. He was a railroad switchman. He returned to Detroit before his death.

Father of Glenna (who married Leslie M. Ernst), Olive (who married Orville McGregor), and Lawrence (who married Kathryn O. Tanner).
