AMITYVILLE HORROR – GIRL, 14, DIES IN SISTER'S ARMS AFTER PARTY SHOOT

A 14-year-old honors student from Long Island died in her little sister's arms after being shot by a punk who'd just been booted from her friend's birthday party, cops said yesterday.

"I was holding her [as] she took her last breath and died," anguished Ashley Baker, 12, said about her sister, Danielle – a straight A student and cheerleader who was shot in the neck during a gang dispute Saturday night inside an Amityville house. "She was just a good, quiet girl," Ashley said. "Teachers at school loved her."

The sisters were among about 50 kids who were enjoying a teen's birthday party Saturday in a one-story bungalow on Miller Avenue in a gritty section of Amityville plagued by gang violence, Suffolk County cops said.

Several adults were chaperoning the party, including the birthday girl's dad.

Danielle arrived at the party at about 9 p.m. and was joined an hour later by Ashley.

Ashley said that at about 10:30 p.m., as Danielle and others were dancing, five teen boys who belong to a local gang called The Browns showed up uninvited to the party, where other guests included members of another gang called The Deuces.

The birthday girl's father was told that the Browns were troublemakers and had not been invited to the shindig.

The dad asked those boys to leave the house, and they did, at about 11:15 p.m.

But as they left through the home's back door, they yelled, "Browns! Browns! Browns!"

Within seconds, a gunshot was fired into the rear of the house, passing through a window and striking Danielle in the neck.

Most of the partygoers scattered when the shot rang out. But Ashley Baker saw her sister fall to the floor and went to her aid, she said.

Danielle, who was unable to speak, briefly stood up and tried to walk toward the front door. But she collapsed again to the floor, where Ashley took her into her arms as she died.

Residents of the home where Danielle was killed refused to answer the door yesterday and did not return a call seeking comment.

Danielle's devastated dad, Cordell Baker, wept as he said, "I'm really hurt. I lost my jewel."

Clutching his dead daughter's report card from Copiague Middle School – which contained all A's – Baker said Danielle had aspired to be a nurse.
