Mrs. Bates was a native of Chapel Hill, and daughter of the late John Thomas and Mattie Houston Potts Glasscock. She was a homemaker and member of the Cornersville First Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William Clarence Bates, in 1978.
She is survived by one daughter, Carolyn Brannon of Shelbyville; two sons, Marlon Bates of Tullahoma and Dr. Gaylon Bates of Alexandria, La.
Burial in Beechwood Cemetery.
