The world lost a great man and an equally great head of hair on Tuesday, December 2, 2014 when Kenneth L. Vance died from a heart attack. Our loving husband, father, brother, papa, and papi will be greatly missed. Ken was born on December 5, 1952 in Lehi, Utah to Nathan L. and Vera Oleen (Gladden) Vance. He graduated from Lehi High School in 1971. After countless hours lassoing and riding in the rodeo arena, he roped his greatest catch of all when he married Ilene Shepherd on May 10, 1974 in the Provo Temple. Ken started pulling weeds for Rocky Mountain Machinery Co. in 1971, and worked his way up to Vice President for Komatsu in Salt Lake City until 2009. After a few years in Tifton Georgia, he returned to Utah and loved working for the city of Midvale. He faithfully served in the LDS church as a Bishop in the Sandy Utah West Stake and in many other callings both in Utah and in Tifton. If he wasn't at work, he could be found with his friends and family in front of the grill, on the golf course, or cheering on his BYU Cougars.
Ken is survived by his wife Ilene, his 2 children, Justin Vance, and Jacqulyn (Adam) Barrow and his "adopted" son Christopher (Kalli) Ashby. He treasured his grandchildren, Grant, Grace, Amelia, Sophie, Stockton, McKay, Brox, Emma, Thomas, Tyler, Taft, Mary and Elizabeth. He is also survived by his siblings, Merlo Whitehouse, Nathan Vance, Rose Vance, Carrie Boltz, Ruth Brown, Ruby Turner, Roberta Murdock and spouses. He is preceded in death by his parents and sister, Donna Banks.
