John was baptized in St. Louis Catholic Church, Buffalo, New York. He moved with his parents to Stephenson County, Illinois where he married Theresia Berger in St Mary's Church. Their witness was Joseph Rettenmaier, Theresia's brother-in-law. John and Theresia first moved to Black Hawk County, Iowa where they attended the St. Francis Church, then moved to Carroll County, Iowa in 1874. They later moved to Cuming County, Nebraska. John was a blacksmith there, living on North Monitor Street. John is buried in the St. Frances de Chantal Catholic Church Cemetery, along with his wife. Theresia was first buried in Westpoint, Nebraska and the body moved to Randolph after John died.
