John M. Shearer, 83, McGeary Hollow Road, Allegheny Twp., died Sunday, Jan. 13, 1985, at 3:58 p.m. in Allegheny Valley Hospital, Natrona Heights, where he had been a patient since Jan. 7. He had been in declining health for the last year.
He was born Aug. 14, 1901, in Gilpin Twp., the son of Samuel and Lidia Beal Shearer.
He had lived in his McGeary Hollow Road residence the last 43 years.
He was employed on the sheet floor as a scrap metal man in stainless steel department at the Vandergrift Plant of U.S. Steel. He retired in 1966, following 30 years of service.
He was a member of Hope Lutheran Church, Hyde Park.
Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Ruth Hill Shearer; three sons, Paul H. Shearer, Danielson, Conn., Marion Pete Shearer, Talmadge, O., and the Rev. Robert J. Shearer, Eaton, O.; one daughter, Charlotte E. Shearer, at home; 13 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren; one brother, Joseph Shearer, Allegheny Twp.; and one half-brother, Leroy Allshouse, Allegheny Twp.
He was preceded in death by his father in 1902 and his mother in 1934; by two brothers, Clyde Shearer in 1980 and James W. Shearer in 1984; a half-brother, Delbert Allshouse, in 1956; by a sister, Emma Shearer, in 1964.
Friends are being welcomed by his family from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today, Monday, at Clawson's, Second at Main, Leechburg, where the funeral will be held tomorrow, Tuesday, at 11 a.m. Officiating will be Vicar Timothy Sprague, intern pastor, in charge. Burial will follow at Bethel Lutheran Cemetery, Bethel Twp.
