[Parents of Sergt. Samuel French are sometimes mistakenly given as Francis French (1625 - 1691) and Lydia Bunnell French (1649 - 1708). This widely-propogated error is from the genealogy of the French family provided by Samuel Orcutt in his 1886 "A History of the Old Town of Stratford and the City of Bridgeport, Connecticut." This has been proven to be wrong. Francis French and Samuel French were not closely related. The siblings listed are not related to this Samuel French either. Sergt. Samuel French (b. 21 Aug 1667 at Guilford, New Haven, Conn, d. Stratfield, Fairfield, Conn, 23 Dec 1732, ae 65 yrs) was the son of Thomas French of Guilford, Connecticut (ca 1615 - ca 1675) and Deborah (Button?) French (ca 1628 - 19 May 1717). Their gravestones do not appear in the Find-A-Grave database. Samuel's wife (Abigail Hubbell) and children (Gamaliel, Thankful) are correct (he had other children as well).]
