KARCHER – David T., 74, Johnstown, passed away March 18, 2013, at Memorial Medical Center. Dave was born April 27, 1938, in Johnstown, son of Aloysius and Matilda (Akers) Karcher. Preceded in death by parents and sister, Patricia Foster. Survived by wife of 34 years, the former Joan R. Adams, with whom he operated Optical Outfitters for 13 years. Also surviving are his children, Pamela J. Stewart, Johnstown; David F., married to Dolores Godish, Indiana, Pa.; Gregory M., Johnstown; Karen S., married to John Lubin, Boynton Beach, Fla.; Luke A.; Kimberly J.; and Kurt D., married to Jennifer Witt, all of Johnstown; and Jennifer, married to Zachary Shustrick, Hollsopple. Also survived by grandchildren, Brianna Stewart; Zachery, Andrea, Jacob, Jonathan, Abbey and Noah Karcher; Annamarie, Helena, Alexandra and Isabella Karcher; Adrianna, Iesha and Tino Lubin; Baylee Karcher; and Matthew Lennon Zimmerman. Brother of Suzanne, married to Roger Chirumbole, Pittsburgh; Thomas, married to Megan Probert, Canton Ohio; and Michael, married to Carla Banta, Johnstown. Member of St. Anne Catholic Church, and often spoke in defense of the faith he professed. Dave began delivering the afternoon newspaper in the Eighth Ward of Johnstown, while in grade school. After working at Harry's Pizza, he apprenticed in the optical field, and formerly held sales and management positions for numerous optical labs. He served in the HQ Co. 1st Tank Battalion 103rd Armor of the Army National Guard in the 1960's. Dave enjoyed boating, hunting, fishing, motorcycle riding and snowmobiling. Dave was a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather, uncle, cousin, neighbor and friend. Friends received from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at John Henderson Co. Funeral Home, 215 Central Ave., where vigil for the deceased will be held. Funeral Mass will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at St. Andrew's Church, the Rev. Bernard Karmanocky, OFM. Committal, St. Joseph Cemetery.
