Ruth E. Deike, 85, of Waverly, Iowa passed away on Monday, December 1, 2014 at the Waverly Health Center in Waverly.
Ruth Elizabeth Deike was born on January 10, 1929, the daughter of Fred and Birdie (Arns) Platte in Waverly, Iowa. She was baptized on February 10, 1929 at home and confirmed on March 22, 1942 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Waverly. Ruth graduated from Waverly High School in 1946 and then attended Wartburg College. On June 20, 1948, she was united in marriage to Raymond E. Deike at Peace United Church of Christ in Waverly. Ruth worked at a fabric shop, taught country school and worked at Marshall Canning Factory before raising her family.
She was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church. Ruth enjoyed quilting, baking (especially pies), gardening and bird watching.
Survivors are her four sons, Ronald (Wei-Lin Jung) Deike of Rochester, Minnesota; Randall (Lori) Deike of Lacey, Washington, Russell Deike of Seattle, Washington and Rick (Pat) Deike of Waverly; two daughters, Rebecca (Norbert) Langenfeld of Hastings, Minnesota and Robyn Deike of Johnson Creek, Wisconsin; six grandchildren; five great- grandchildren and brother, Waldo (Marion) Platte of Pharr, Texas. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Ray on June 10, 1988; daughter, Roxanna at birth and sister, Winifred Nolte.
Memorial services will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, December 5, 2014 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Waverly with Pastor Curt Schneider officiating.
