Ida Berniece, daughter of Mary Hazel ((Robinson) and Leonard E. Sample was born on February 19, 1929 at Freedom, Oklahoma. She passed away at the Buffalo Harper County Community Hospital on the 30th of November at the age of 85 years, 8 months and 11 days.

Ida attended the Freedom School System and graduated high school with the class of 1947. Miss Sample was married to Leon Howland on August 11, 1946 in Freedom. To their marriage three children, Gwendolyn Faye, Rosalie Ann and Brian Leon were born.

Following their marriage they have made their home in Freedom. In 1951 they purchased the Freedom Motor Company and retired in 2005.

She attended the Freedom United Methodist Church. She worked at the Lile Grocery Store, was the first Secretary at the Soil Conservation Office and she with her sister delivered rural mail out of the Freedom Post-office.

Mrs. Howland was preceded in death by her parents, a sister Leona Bradt, a brother, Larry Sample and a great granddaughter, McKinzie Cheyenne Claussen.

Ida is survived by her husband, Leon of the home, two daughters, Gwen and her husband, Gaylen Winn of Fairview and Rosalie Bliss & companion, Jerry Hale of Woodward, a son and his wife, Brian and Rhonda of Freedom. A number of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
