Barbara J. “Barbie” Fennell, 67, of Winfield, Kansas passed away Monday evening, December 1, 2014 at her home in Winfield.

Born January 20, 1947 in El Dorado, Kansas, she was the daughter of Donald J. and Lola (Hutchinson) Fennell. In 1961 she became a resident of the Winfield State Hospital and Training Center. She remained there until its closing in 1996. She then moved to South Wind ResCare where she lived until 2000 when she moved to Creative Community Living which later became Easter Seal Capper Foundation. She enjoyed music, shopping, and food.

Her family includes: Her sisters: Joyce Koehn of Augusta; Kathy Lill of El Dorado; Ann Catlin of Springfield, MO; Her guardian: Julie Negrete of Winfield; and Her good friend: Ava Cheaves of Winfield.

In addition to her parents Barbie was preceded in death by her stepmother, Betty Fennell.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Friday, December 5, 2014 at Miles Funeral Service in Winfield. Interment will follow at Towanda Township Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday evening, December 4, 2014 from 4 to 8.

A memorial has been established in Barbie’s name for Easter Seal Capper Foundation, formerly Creative Community Living. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
