Loren E. "Bones" Stadum, age 86, of Coleraine, died Saturday, March 11, 2006 at Grand Itasca Clinic and Hospital, Grand Rapids.
He was born on May 18, 1919 in Pennington Co., Minn., to Oscar and Ella (Hendrickson) Stadum. Loren attended school in Thief River Falls graduating in 1939. He was a two time member of the Minnesota State High School Basketball All Tournament Team and on the 1939 Thief River Falls State Championship Basketball Team. Loren received a scholarship for sports and attended Syracuse University in New York. He was united in marriage on Sept. 4, 1942 to Marjorie "Pinkie" Mozell Bullock. Loren entered the U.S. Army and served during World War II. Following his discharge from the service, he finished his degree in education at the University of Minnesota. Bones and Pinkie moved to Barnum in 1947 and later to Osakis until they made their home in Coleraine. He taught science and was coach at Coleraine from 1952 until 1981, where he also served as the athletic director for a period of time. He was a member of St. Andrew's Lutheran Church, Grand Rapids. Bones enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing, traveling, mowing lawn, snow blowing, and most of all taking care of his grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Mozell "Pinkie;" three brothers, Arnold, Juel, and Donald Stadum; and two sisters, Margaret Olson, and Stella Craig.
He is survived by three daughters, Cathy (Brian) Brandt of Anchorage, Alaska, Margo (Ron) Gauthier of Buffalo, Stephanie (David) Hanson of Falcon Heights; one sister, Joyce (Bill) Larson of Wadena; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.
