Mary Lou Carlson (nee Hewitt), age 84, of Joliet, passed away peacefully Friday, November 21, 2014, at Presence St. Joseph Medical Center.

She was employed by the Herald News for over 20 years until retiring in 1987. Member of the Joliet Elk's Club # 296 and Grace United Methodist Church. She enjoyed spending time with family and friends.

Preceded in death by her loving husband of 59 years, Fred W .Jr.; her children, twins, James William and Gerald William and Nancy Theresa; sister, Catherine May Azman; and her parents, Elton and Louise Hewitt.

Survived by her loving children, Thomas (Mary Lou) of Rock Island and Sue (Paul) Nagel of Johnston, IA; grandchildren, Alan, Claire, Glen and Mark; and brother-in-law, Jack Azman. Numerous friends, nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, November 26, 2014, 11:15 a.m. in the O'Neil Funeral Home 1105 E. 9Th St. Lockport, with Pastor Jan Shaulis officiating.

Interment Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery, Elwood.

Visitation Tuesday, November 25, 2014, 4:00 to 8:00 pm.
