Born to George Jepthy Foster and Julia Ann Woods Foster in Brewster County, Texas.

When Maude was a girl, she drove sheep with one of her brothers.
Her father George worked with the Texas Rangers along the border of Oklahoma. On one trip, he brought Maude and Sam with him. Each child was given bullets and told not to waste them. Maude knew Sam would shoot all of his then want hers so she hid them in her father's tobacco pouch. After the children went to bed, there was quite a commotion as George found Maude's bullets in his pipe tobacco.

She married Samuel Arthur Miller on April 7,1911 in Howard county, Texas.
They had 7 children. Sam managed a horse ranch in Kansas and the couple broke horses together.
The family lived in Kansas, Oklahoma and Texas. They once traveled from Liberal, Kansas to Corpus Christi, Texas in a covered wagon and spent a year traveling between Austin and Big Spring. They moved to Porterville, California in 1945, then to Bellflower in 1949.
Their children were:
Samuel Thomas Miller~April 20, 1912-April 21, 1912
Mary Leo ~May 21,1913-March 17,1994
Raymond Arthur ~Aug. 13,1915-Oct. 11,1976
Guy Wilderson ~Aug. 9,1916-May 13, 2000
Claudie Levi~Aug. 31, 1919-Jan. 16, 1951
Thelma Maedell~May 5, 1924-May 18,2014
Nall Lamar~ July 1, 1928-Dec. 8, 1966

Maude worked hard all her life and when her husband was sick she "took in wash and sang all day."
Maude had a great sense of humor and always seemed to have a twinkle in her eye. She was raised with a rifle in her hand. You could roll a marble along the ground and she could plug it before it stopped rolling.
While the family lived in Big Spring, it was common for her to load the children in the wagon and ride over to Gladewater to visit relatives, with her rifle across her lap.

As an adult, Maude Miller received the gracious Water of Life in Holy Baptism.
God claimed her as His own dear child. Maude was a joy-filled and faithful Christian woman all her life.
Maude Miller was called to heaven on February 27, 1988. She is survived by two daughters, Mary Hays of Coahoma, Texas and Thelma Lakey of Port Neches, Texas and one son, Guy Miller of Hinkley, CA. 30 grandchildren and many great grandchildren and some great great grandchildren.

Pastor Nathan O. Loesch spoke at her funeral.
