Isaac Maxwell 'Max' McCombs, 80, of Sayre died Sunday, Sept. 2, 2001, at his residence.

A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. today, Sept. 5, 2001, in the New Horizon Memorial Gardens in Dora. David Ward will officiate. New Horizon Memorial Funeral Home in Dora will direct.

McCombs was a retired coal miner from the Drummond Coal Company and a lifelong member of UMWA. He was also a veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corp, serving during World War II.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Evelyn McCombs of Sayre; three daughters, Latha Kimbrel and her husband, Donald of Sayre, Lanoma Carter of Empire, and Bonnie Daniel and her husband, Eddie of Bagley; two sons, Chuck McCombs and his wife, Carla of Moody and Terry McCombs and his wife, Karen of Bagley; one sister, Bea Sandlin of Hanceville; eight grandchildren, Doug Turner of Dora, Daryel Thomas of Sayre, Steve Turner of Atlanta, Keith Thomas of Empire, Mike Turner of Gardendale, Kerry McCombs of Graysville, Jake McCombs of Bagley and Jonah McCombs of Bagley; seven great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
