"Kenneth Lee White, age 81, passed away Tuesday, November 18, at his home after a brief battle with acute leukemia. His family was by his side.

Kenneth was the youngest of eight children born to Robert Marion and Minnie Hunt White of Davilla. After the death of his mother when he was 8, he lived with his sister, Minnie.

He attended Bartlett schools and was proud to tell that he and 12 others went from first grade to graduation together.

After graduation he spent a year at Redlands University in Redlands, California. Following that year he returned to Texas and was given a football scholarship to Howard Payne University where he completed his education, graduating with a degree in history.

While there he met Dixie Jean Furry and they were married in 1954. Within two weeks of their honeymoon he was drafted in to the Army and was sent to Panama. Dixie followed him there where she worked as secretary to the base commander.
Both felt life was good and would say "We loved Panama." When discharged the couple moved to Houston where Kenneth worked for Phillips Petroleum and Dixie was secretary for a molasses company.

Soon they became parents of their first child. It was during this time that Kenneth enrolled in the University of Houston and received a degree in accounting.

Their family grew to three children. Eventually, the family moved to Friendswood and Kenneth worked for Gray Tool Company as a controller.

Though the family had great times in Friendswood, Ken's heart was always in Bartlett. When the opportunity came for him to become plant manager for Smith International (McEvoy) in Temple he and Dixie moved there. Later they purchased land between Bartlett and Granger, purchased a home in Bartlett, and had it moved there in 1982.

Out in the country, next to brother, Tommy, and wife Joyce they had many happy gatherings of friends and family playing dominoes and listing to country-western music and brother Tommy's harmonica. Sing-alongs were an important part of any gathering.

Ken remained in good health until recently. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Minnie White; three brothers, Harry, Bobby, and Tommy White; and three sisters, Eva Goodnight, Minnie Glenn Gray, and Mary Blum.

He is survived by one sister; two sons; one daughter; and two grandsons.

Visitation was held from 6pm-8pm on Friday November 21, at Goodnight Funeral Home. Funeral services were held at 12 noon on Saturday November 22, at Goodnight Funeral Home with Pastor John Roark presiding.

Interment followed at Bartlett City Cemetery.
