Joe worked as a Booth Cleaner for General Motors, where he retired from after 30 years of service. Joe attended the North Goodland Baptist Church and formerly the Lindsay Lane Baptist Church in Athens, AL. Joe enjoyed golfing and gardening, but most of all he loved spending time with his family and grandchildren.
Joe is survived by: his wife, Twylha of North Branch; son, Joe Abernathy of St. Charles, MI; daughter, Deanna (Phillip) Moore of North Branch; grandchildren, Autumn, Kaitlyn, Faith and Spencer; sisters, Margie Moreno of Irondale, AL, Peggy (Gene) Garland of Athens, AL, Sheila (Rick) Strain of Athens, AL, Darlene (Larry) Morris of Waterford, and Paulette (Matt) McDowell of Pontiac; brothers, Wayne (Alice) Abernathy of Mansfield, OH, Jack (Betty) Abernathy of Harvest, AL, Douglas (Karen) Abernathy of Harvest, AL, Scott (Colleen) Abernathy of Pontiac, and Andy Abernathy of Pontiac; and many nephews, nieces and cousins.
Joe was preceded in death by his parents, James and Geneva; brothers, Terry Lee, Charles David and Frank; and sister, Faye.
Family will be present for visitation on Friday, Nov. 22nd from 5 PM-8PM and on Saturday, Nov. 23rd from 10 AM-11 AM with the Funeral Service at 11 AM Saturday with Pastor John Chippewa officiating, all at Blackburn Chapel-Martin Funeral Home.
Burial will be in Westlawn Cemetery in North Branch. Arrangements entrusted to Blackburn Chapel-Martin Funeral
