MICHAEL HARNEY (1819-1907)
Michael Harney was born in Ballinasloe, County Galway, Ireland, parish of Kilcloony. Records vary on his actual birth date. Family records have 6 Aug 1819 and the gravestone inscription has 19 Oct 1819.
Michael was the son of Mathias Harney of that parish, and his first wife, Annie Rooney, per the research of the late Rev. Martin P. Harney, who was a history professor at Boston College. Rev. Harney wrote a letter to Peggy Markle of Portsmouth, OH, dated 8 Dec 1964, which cited this information.

Michael Harney married Ann Graham, about 1845, in Ireland. Ann was born 10 May 1826, the daughter of Hugh Graham and Mary Boland. Michael and Ann Harney immigrated to America with their nine children about 1867, and Michael became a Naturalized citizen on 2 November 1874, at Lynn, MA. The birth date given on his Naturalization papers is 20 Oct 1820, which does not agree with the family records or gravestone inscription.

Children of Michael and Ann include: Matthew Michael (1847-1885); Hubert J (1848-1935); Annie Lynn (Mrs. John) COTTER; John Wm (1854-1944); Peter J (1856-1933); Thomas F (1860-1927); Patrick J (1860-1943); Martin B (1864-1918); and Michael J. Harney (1868-1905). The Lynn, MA, census records shows Michael's occupation as a laborer, and his oldest two sons as shoemakers. Ann (Graham) Harney died on 30 April 1892 in Lynn, and Michael died on 20 July 1907. They are buried at St. Mary's Cemetery.
