Wilhelmine was born 4 January 1883, the daughter of Sir William Theodore and Margaret (nee Wilkinson) Doxford, shipbuilder. Sir William (1841-1916) was the eldest of four sons, who with their father, William, controlled William Doxford & Sons, Ltd. This was a shipbuilding firm that was larger than the Thompson's. The Doxfords were a very wealthy family at this time. Wilhelmine developed multiple sclerosis soon after she was married and spent the rest of her life in a wheel chair. She died on 7 February 1955, age 72, at Rutson Hospital, Northallerton, Yorkshire. The body was cremated. The ashes were placed in Sockburn Church, Girsby, Near Darlington.
