Obituary Notice: Burton “Burt” M. Norris

Burton “Burt” M. Norris, 83, of Curwensville died Friday, Nov. 21, 2014 after a short illness. Born Aug. 8, 1931, he was the son of Foster G. “Doc” and Carrie (Moose) Norris.

He served his country with the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. He was a life member of the Greenville Church of the Brethren, where he served as a deacon, Sunday school teacher and Sunday school superintendent.

He volunteered his time for numerous years at the Clearfield County Fair. He was a past chairman and committee member of the Grampian Days Celebration. He played in the Grampian Band and also helped with the Grampian Community Vacation Bible School.

On Nov. 2, 1951 at the Greenville Church of the Brethren, he wed Charlotte “Shirley” Wolfe, who preceded him in death on Oct. 29, 1984. He was also preceded in death by his parent; two brothers, Olen “Auddie” and George Norris; and a sister, Marie Shaffer.

Mr. Norris was the last member of his generation.


Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Greenville Church of the Brethren with Pastor Leslie Bloom officiating. Burial will follow in the Greenville Cemetery.

Military honors will be accorded at the cemetery by members of the Clearfield Honor Guard.

Friends will be received from 2 p.m. – 4 p.m. and from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. Friday at the Chester C. Chidboy Funeral Home Inc. of Curwensville and from 10 a.m. Saturday until the time of services at the church.

The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Greenville Church of the Brethren, 3995 Greenville Pike, Grampian, PA 16838, or Penn Highlands Dubois Hospice, 100 Hospital Ave., Dubois, PA 15801.

The Chester C. Chidboy Funeral Home Inc. of Curwensville is in charge of the arrangements.
