George Weingartner, 51, of Geneva On The Lake, Ohio, a former resident of Mt. Vernon, died at 3:45 am on Sunday at Metropolitan General Hospital in Cleveland, OH., from burns suffered on September 14 in a gas well drilling accident near Ashtabula, OH. at a rig operated by Pep Drilling Company of Mt. Vernon,IL. Mr. Weingartner was born in Mt. Vernon on August 31,1923 a son of G. Roy Weingartner and Lois (Murphy) Weingartner. He married Elnora (Church) Storment of Geneva On The Lake, OH. who survives. Mr. Weingartner was a Navy veteran of World War II in the Pacific Theater and was a member of V.F.W. of Waltonville. he was also a member of the I.O.O.F. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 2 pm at the graveside in Oakwood Cemetery. Friends may call at Myers Chapel at 6 pm on Tuesday. Military services are in charge of V.F.W. of Waltonville. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Roy Weingartner of Mt. Vernon; one son, Wendell Weingartner of Mt. Vernon; one daughter, Paula Kay Weingartner of Springfield; two step-sons, Denean Storment of Mt. Vernon and Roger Storment of Herrin; four step-daughters, Mrs. Alice White of Steelville, Mrs. Carol Cox of Mt. Vernon, Mrs. Dixie Rector of Mt. Vernon and Carla Storment at home; a sister, Ms. Becky Dodson of Colorado Springs, CO and 11 step-grandchildren. He was preceded by death by one sister.
