COTTONDALE Thelma Lurline Barger, age 89, of Cottondale, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 11, 2012, at home surrounded by her family and friends. Services will be 11 a.m. Friday at Tuscaloosa Memorial Chapel Funeral Home with Jimmy Garner officiating and Larry Barger and Lawrence Brewer assisting. Burial will follow in Tuscaloosa Memorial Park with Tuscaloosa Memorial Chapel Funeral Home directing. Visitation will be tonight from 6 to 8 p.m at the funeral home. The body will lie in state 30 minutes prior to services Friday at the funeral home.
She was preceded in death by her infant son, M.L. Barger; her parents, Charlie and Willie Mae Hallman; her sisters, Lucille Oswalt, Nancy Dees Burton, and Shirley Elledge Barger; and her brothers, Roy Hallman, Dallas Hallman, C.J. Hallman, and Larry Hallman.
Survivors include her devoted and loving husband of 69 years, Marvin Barger; her daughter, Sharron McCoy (Jim); her son, Wayne Barger (Fran); her sisters, Evelyn Morrison, Lillie Mae Dewees, and Margaret Spencer; her brother, Daniel Hallman; her grandchildren, Jimmy McCoy (Melissa), Michelle Davis (Paul), Christi Burt (Gary), and Lori May (Tim); and her great-grandchildren, Candice McCoy, Casie McCoy, Brandon Davis, Brian Davis, Brooke Davis, Hannah Burt, and Arden May.
She was a devoted wife and mother who, with her husband, provided a loving, Christian home to her family. She was a member of Skyland Boulevard Baptist Church.
Pallbearers will be Gary Burt, Paul Davis, Tim May, Mike Elledge, Audie Barger, and Larry Barger.
Honorary pallbearers are Keenagers and members of Skyland Boulevard Baptist Church.
The family would like to express special thanks and appreciation to all of the staff of Hospice of West Alabama and her caregiver Debra Martin for the exceptional loving care they provided during her illness.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Skyland Boulevard Baptist Church or Hospice of West Alabama.
