Homer David Yates, 89, of Quitman passed away Monday November 17, 2014 at his residence after a lengthy illness. He was born in Pavo, Ga. to the late Shelly and Geneva Edmondson Yates. He was a life long resident of Brooks County and was married to Mary Jo Sumner Yates for 61 years. Mr Yates was a farmer and member of Okapilco Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife; Mary Jo Yates of Quitman, two children; Sue Yates (Eric) Johnson of Quitman, Larry David Yates of Quitman, two grandchildren; Joel (Kim) Furney, David (Deidra) Yates, two great grandchildren; Conner Furney, Blake Yates, one sister; Olga McDaniel of Dixie. and his brother James Ross Yates of Quitman. Graveside services will be held Wednesday November 19 at 3:00 PM in Okapilco Church Cemetery with Rev. David Cook officiating.
