According to his attached obituary, William requested to be buried in Mathias Shepler's graveyard. Mathias is buried in this cemetery and it has been named after him. It is assumed that William is, in fact, buried here according to his wishes. It is fair to presume that William's wife may also be buried in this cemetery.

William married Sally Sarah Pearce around 1798 in Pennsylvania and they had eight children together: John, Nancy Ann (Wagoner), James, Jacob, Hannah (Carnes), Eleanor Ellen (Miller), Caleb, and William Cornelius.
