Velma Autrey Gould, 73, passed away on Thursday, November 20, 2014, in Garland, Texas, after a lengthy illness. Visitation will be from 3 to 5 p.m., Sunday, November 23, 2014, in the J.E. Keever Mortuary Chapel of Palmer. A Celebration of Life will take place at 1 p.m., Monday, November 24, 2014, in the Fundamental Baptist Church of Palmer with Rev. Gary Miller and Rev. James Smith officiating. Interment will follow in Bristol Cemetery.

Velma was born in Crisp, Texas, to the late Ernest and Pearl Autrey, and grew up in Palmer. In 1959, Velma graduated as Valedictorian of her class of Palmer High School. On November 26, 1962, she married John C. Gould, Jr. and they made their home in Palmer, then Red Oak, and finally to Ovilla.

Velma spent the majority of her professional life in just two positions. She spent 18 years as office manager of Farmers Supply in Ferris, Texas, and 17 years as City Secretary for the City of Ovilla, Texas. A longtime member of the Fundamental Baptist Church of Palmer, she enjoyed going to sporting events, traveling, and especially spending time with her grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a brother.

Survivors include her husband, John C. Gould, Jr., of Ovilla; sons, John C. Gould III, of Palmer, and Craig Gould and his wife, Rebecca, of Southlake; grandchildren: Katie, Kara, Kristen, Josh, and Ella; brother, Gene Autry and wife, LaJune; other relatives and many friends. A17
