Divorced Louella 17 Jun 1903 PA
"[John] met his second wife, Lydia Banks, when he was a teacher in his forties and she was a student around 18 years old. I believe that he had met and married Louella under similar but more age appropriate circumstances. In any case he married and had 7 more children with Lydia Banks. This was in North Carolina and their first child was born in 1901. John's NC descendant had a DNA test that confirmed the connection between the two families. She indicated that the family knew that there was a bit of a scandal behind the marriage. Apparently in NC he somehow became a "county doctor" and was credited with saving many lives. He also owned an apple orchard. We were told he went across the river to a fair and never came back. Apparently the divorce papers indicated he drank, but I think that was a common thing to say when seeking a divorce in those days. "
