Andy Lathrop, 88, of Nashville


Andy Lathrop, age 88, of Nashville, Ark., died Thursday, Sept. 7, 2017, at Saint Vincent's Hospital in Hot Springs, Ark.


A memorial service was Sept. 10, 2017, at 2:00 p.m. at Nashville Funeral Home.


Alonzo (Andy) Lathrop, son of Alonzo (Bert) and Jenny Lathrop was born on April 23, 1929, in Jerusalem, New York.


Andy served in the US Army as a Corporal during the Korean Conflict from 1949 to 1951, where he earned a Bronze Service Star.


Before going into the military, Andy was a farmer in New York. He later worked as machinist for Rockwell International in Ohio. He moved to Arkansas in 1972, working for Tyson Foods in various capacities. After retirement, Andy worked as the caretaker of Yellow Creek Hunting Club for approximately 13 years.


Andy enjoyed gardening, baking sugar cookies, admiring wildlife, traveling, and attending gospel singings throughout SW Arkansas.


Andy is survived by his wife Margaret; one daughter, Debra (Mark) Moilan of Huron, S.D.; two sons, Gary (Jacala) Lathrop and Jay (Tina) Lathrop both of Nashville, Ark.; two step-daughters, Linda (Steve) Hankins of St. Stephens, Ala., and Mary (Thurman "Red") Pennington of Lockesburg, Ark.; 15 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.


He was preceded in death by his first wife, Willadean (Harris) Lathrop; three step-children, Chester Abernathy, Willie Ann Abernathy and Julia Abernathy; one brother and two sisters.
