Freadom G. Zimmerman, 92, of Elgin. He was born on in Elgin the son of Charles and Martha (Bremmer) Zimmerman. Freadom was a Sergeant with the 29th Division of the US Army during WWII. He received the Combat Infantry Badge, the Bronze Star, the D-Day invasion Medal, the European/ African/ Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with 3 stars, the WWII Medal, the American Campaign Medal, Expert Marksman Medal and the Purple Heart. Upon returning from duty, Freadom worked at the Elgin National Watch Factory and Elgin Community College prior to retirement. He was a member of the American Legion Post #57 and the Park Manor Bible Chapel of Elgin. He was preceded in death by his parents, and a son: Donald George Zimmerman in infancy; 9 brothers and 4 sisters.
