Funeral Services for Euelar Pryor Wooten, age 82 of Sulphur Springs will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, November 22, 2014 at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church with Rev. Michael D. Pryor and Pastor Willis E. Taylor, Sr., Enlogist officiating. Mrs. Wooten's grandsons will be serving as pallbearers. There will be no formal visitation.
Euelar was born June 27, 1932 in Hopkins Co. to the parentage of Claude and Eliza Wynn Pryor. She was the seventh child and the youngest daughter of eleven siblings. She was raised and grew up in the "Birch Creek" community. She accepted Jesus Christ at an early age, was baptized and a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church. She was a faithful member, active in Sunday School, and occasionally played the piano as a teenager.
She met and married Henry Lee Wooten, Sr. on November 5, 1949, and later moved to Dallas, TX. To the union, eight children were born. She was a member of St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church before uniting with Third Ave. Missionary Baptist Church: serving as one of the charter members. In 1964 she united with New Birth Missionary Baptist Church, under the leadership of Dr. George W. Pryor, her brother and church founder. She was also one of the charter members, serving faithfully. She sang in the choir, worked in the nursery, and worked in the church's daycare.
Throughout her Christian journey, she never sent her children to church, she always took them, rarely missing a Sunday. Besides her gift of motherhood, she had a special gift for remembering the names of children. She genuinely loved children--her own, as well as others. She had a close bond with all of her nieces and nephews and treated them as her own. She devoted the biggest portion of her life in raising children, this was one of her greatest joys in life. In addition to motherhood, she was a faithful and committed wife. She worked on many jobs which included employment with the Methodist Hospital of Dallas as a nurses' aide before becoming a licensed barber. She retired from the workforce in 1975 to devote her time in helping raise her grandchildren. Up until her health failed, she never lost that desire to be a part of their upbringing. She would always say, "I'm the most blessed mom in the world."
In 1978 her husband organized the New Harmony Baptist Church. In 1982 they decided to return to Sulphur Springs, TX, re-uniting with Pleasant Hill Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of A.D. Sanders. Her husband Rev. Henry Wooten, Sr. served as executive minister. Since her return, she has served faithfully under the leadership of Pastor Willis E. Taylor, Sr. whom she often referred to as her "Son." She was a member of the Women Mission Auxiliary, the Sanctuary Choir and the Women Chorus. She was married for fifty-four years before becoming a widow. She was a strong Christian woman who lived out her life teaching, training, disciplining, caring for, and loving children. The Lord called her home from labor on November 14, 2014, to her new home prepared for her in glory. Her eight-two years on earth were truly a blessing and well lived.
