Toshiko Fukuda Baker passed away on October 16, 2014 after a lengthy illness. Toshiko was born in Yokohama, Japan. She graduated from Liberty Language Institute in Tokyo, Japan. In 1952 Toshiko came to the United States as a newlywed and was married to her husband John J. Baker (24th IDA, Korea 50-51) for 65 years.

Toshiko called the Monterey Peninsula her home for 40 years.


Toshiko was predeceased by her parents Kitaro and Toshie Hatakeyama Fukuda, and sisters Tomoe Hitomi and Teruko Sato, daughter Linda Marie Baker and son John Joseph Baker, Jr. She is survived by her family: loving husband John J. Baker, daughter Margaret H. Baker, granddaughter Jaime Toshie Baker. Toshiko was very proud of her Japanese heritage and family history.

She enjoyed reading and gardening. She practiced Buddhism and was a pacifist. Toshiko was a member of Soka Gakkai International-USA since 1964.


Per Toshiko's wishes her ashes will be interred next to her daughter Linda at San Carlos Cemetery in Monterey.

Toshiko will be missed every day and remembered for her kindness, generosity and love for her family. Condolences may be sent to John & Family at 839 Newton St, Monterey, CA 93940
Memorial Services will be held at 1 PM, Friday November 14 at the San Carlos Cemetery, 792 Fremont St, Monterey, CA.
