John Raymond ANGLESE was born on January 6, 1881, in Clinton, Clinton County, Iowa, the fourth of five children. His Irish immigrant father, James, was then 36 and his mother, Keziah Orr, from Ohio, was 33. Both James and Keziah were Methodists. John's father was a farmer but at the time of John’s birth James was working at a saw mill across the Mississippi River in Clinton, Iowa. By 1885, the family was back to farming in rural Whiteside County, Illinois.

John attended school through 8th grade and was a farmhand on his parent’s farm until, at age 21, he married 20 year old Mildred Adele Eads on August 21, 1902, in Clinton, Iowa. Millie was then living with her parents across the Mississippi River in Albany, Illinois, having arrived from New York in about 1894.

By 1910 John, Millie, and their three children (Miles, Clarence, and Ester) were living in a house they rented in Newton Township and farming. In November of 1917, John’s 14 year old son, Miles died after being shot by his own rifle when it discharged after falling to the floor of the buggy he was driving. Adding to that tragedy, two of John’s other children (2 year old Ada and 10 month old James) would parish two weeks apart in May 1921 – likely from diphtheria.

In 1918, when he registered for the WWI draft, John and family were living in a house they rented in rural Albany Township and farming. By 1925 they had moved into a rented house in Albany Village but were still farming. They would live in Albany Village for the remainder of their lives.

John & Millie had eight children in 20 years:
1) Miles Wayne Anglese b.1903 – d.1917
2) Clarence Raymond Anglese b.1904 – d.1994
3) Esther M. Anglese b.1907 – d.1992
4) Kenneth Everette Anglese b.1913 – d.1997
5) Harlan Henry Anglese b.1915 – d.1990
6) Ada Madella Anglese b.1918 – d.1921
7) James Glenn Anglese b.1920 – d.1921
8) Donald E. Anglese b.1923 – d.1970

Sometime around 1940 John ceased farming to work as well driller. In 1951 he worked at McLaughlin Body Company in Moline until he was 70. John died of a stroke at his home on February 24, 1975, in Albany Village, Illinois, at the age of 94, and was buried in Lusk Memorial Cemetery.
