Billie Dixon Childers was born on April 21, 1930 in Cross Plains, Texas and passed away quietly at his home in Odessa on November 12, 2014.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Myrtle Childers; his brothers, John Wagner Childers, J. C. Childers, G. W. Childers, Gwynn Childers, Blanton Childers, and Ruby Joe Childers; sisters, Halley Couch and Laverne O'Bryant.
He is survived by his wife, Irene, and his son, Richard, and his many nieces and nephews and their children. Bill grew up on the family farm in Cross Plains where he spent happy times with his siblings.
He went on to serve his country proudly in the U.S. Army. He worked most of his life in the oil industry, and finished his career as a Senior Drilling Supervisor for Occidental Petroleum. He spent much of his professional career overseas working in faraway lands like the Sahara Desert, the oilfields of Nigeria, and the North Sea of Scotland. After retirement he said he would never get on another airplane in his life if he had anything to do with it, so he settled down and bought and operated the Midessa Mobile Home Park. He spent his retirement years there and enjoyed working in his shop and fixing things for friends and family. His mind was always active and his hands were never idle he even drilled water wells for his property. In his retirement Bill went on many trips in his RV with his best friend and love of his life Irene. He especially liked going to bike rallies, or anything where he got to ride his motorcycle. Every time someone would pull up, he would say "Tie it up, and see how far you've been," that was his way of saying sit down and visit awhile.
