Edith Corse Evans died on the Titanic. She boarded at Cherbourg, and stayed in cabin A29. Her travel companions, three sisters, Mrs. Charlotte Appelton, Mrs. Malvina Helen Lamson Cornell and Mrs. Caroline Lane Lamson Brown a widow, were returning home from burrying a fourth sister Lady Victor Drummond. They along with Edith Evans had the misfortune and double tragedy of being booked on the Titanic. When the ship hit the iceberg panic and confusion set in. In the chaos that ensued, Charlotte and Malvina became seperated from Edith and Caroline. Perhaps that is why the two friends stayed aboard so long. Finally giving up the search for their respective friends and sisters, the two women approached a lifeboat. It was now 2:20 am. Only too late did they realize that one of them was doomed. The last boat with one last seat remained and it was about to leave. It was then that Edith turned to her friend and said, "You go. You have children waiting for you at home. I'll get a later boat." But there would be no later boat. Edith Evans went down with the Titanic. Her body was never found. She was only 36.
