Esther M. Hammerstrom was born at Alton, Iowa on April 5, 1903, the oldest daughter of Ben and Hannah Marks. As a child she moved with her parents to Hurley, where she grew to womanhood.

On February 20, 1924 she was united in marriage to Clarence H. Hammerstrom at Lennox. Following their marriage the couple farmed near Davis. They retired in 1964 and moved into Lennox where they had since made their home.

She was a member of Turner County First Presbyterian church of rural Davis.

Following an illness of four months, Mrs. Hammerstrom passed away in a Sioux Falls hospital on March 27, 1973. She attained the age of 69 years, 11 months, 22 days.

Survivors are her widower, Clarence, of Lennox; four sons; Alvin and Lloyd, both of Lennox, Harold of Orange City, Iowa and Verlyn of Webster City, Iowa; one daughter, Mrs. Robert (Carol) Smidt of Lennox; three sisters: Mrs. Fred (Marie) Jibben of Lake Preston, Mrs. Lester (Flora) Hammerstrom of Chancellor, and Mrs. Henry (Maude) Kock of Lennox; 15 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

The Rev. Bruce Pray officiated and the pallbearers were; Lynn, Glen, Daryl, Earl Hammerstrom and Wayne Kock and Kenneth Jibben
