Bernice Eastland Ashley was born Jan. 29, 1922 in Eagle Lake, and went to be with our Lord April 3, 2006, at the age of 84, leaving this world an emptier place.

She died in the home she loved and with one of her four children at her side. She led a long, productive and happy life, touching many lives along the way.

She was preceded in death by her husband of more than 50 years, Sidney Weaver Ashley.

She is survived by her daughters, Peggy Hand, and her husband, Kenny, and Betty Jo Frank and husband, Gene; son Sidney and wife, Lanelle, and her youngest son, Robert, all of Richmond and Rosenberg. She also enjoyed 11 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.

Bernice Ashley was loved by many. Her faith in God and her unfailing positive attitude made the world a better place. Everyone who knew her will remember her love for her family and the joy she took in simple pleasures. She loved to dance, and continued to do so until just a couple of years ago.

While her children were growing, she worked at Schaffer Pharmacy, a landmark in Rosenberg for many years. During her retirement years, Bernice worked part-time at Living Waters Christian School in Rosenberg, caring for the preschool children until 2002, where she was known to all of the children as "Grandma Ashley."

Bernice was unfailingly kind and loved nothing more than spending time with her family and friends. We will all miss her greatly.

Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, April 6, 2006 at Church of Living Waters, 4808 Airport Ave. in Rosenberg. Services will be at 2:30 p.m. Friday, April 7, 2006 at Church of Living Waters with Dr. Gene W. Frank officiating. Interment will follow at Rosenberg City Cemetery (formerly W.O.W. Cemetery) in Rosenberg.

The family has requested that for those wishing, donations be made in the name of Bernice Ashley to Living Waters Christian School (donations are tax deductible), 281-238-8946.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Davis-Greenlawn Funeral Home, 3900 B.F. Terry Blvd. in Rosenberg. 281-341-8800.
