Henry Opdahl was born July 5, 1910, the son of Iver and Hilda Opdahl in the Litchville community. He was raised to manhood and received his education in the community. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith and was a member of the First Lutheran Church in Litchville. He married Irene Nichols August 15, 1933 at Valley City. The couple farmed in Svea Township until 1946 when they moved into Litchville and Mr. Opdahl went into the Case and Chevrolet dealership business. The firm, Opdahl Motors, served in this capacity for 25 years. Since that time the business has continued in other lines of farm equipment. His son, Harlan also became affiliated with the business. Mr. Opdahl has been active in community affairs, having served on the local school board and being instrumental in the organization of the Ruritan Club in the community, as well as other community projects.
He is survived by his wife Irene; one son, Harlan of Litchville; two daughters, Mrs. Curtis (Arlene) Kraft of Fargo and Mrs. Dennis (Delores) Olafson of Cooperstown; ten grandchildren; his mother, Hilda Opdahl of Litchville; one sister, Muriel Felchle of Santa Cru, Calif.; seven brothers, Ingulf of Pleasanton, Calif.; Clarence of Bridgeview, Ill., Donald of Valley City; Alfred, Elmer, Lyle and Gerald, all of Litchville. He was preceded in death by his father, one sister and one great-grandchild.
Funeral service will be held in the First Lutheran Church of Litchville Friday at 11 a.m. with Rev. Russell Pollock officiating. Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens at Valley City.
