NEWARK - Joseph H. McGlaughlin, 89, of Newark, Ohio died Tuesday morning, March 13, 2018 at Flint Ridge Nursing Home in Newark.
Born June 20, 1928 in Glouster, Ohio he was a son of the late Willard and Mabel (Moody) McGlaughlin. Mr. McGlaughlin proudly served our country in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. He was a retired floor lift operator at Owens-Corning in Newark. Joe was a Christian and attended services and many functions at the Second Baptist Church in Newark. He was also active in the church services held at Autumn Health Care Center in Newark. He was a very active outdoorsman and he enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening. He was very proud of the gourds that he grew and he enjoyed painting them and making birdhouses from them.
Surviving are six daughters, Melody Whisner, Charlene Knapp, Deborah (Ross) Miller, Sue (Dan) Carpenter, Jane Barker and Debra (Jim) Myers; one son, Daniel (Janet) Crego; several grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren. Also surviving is a brother, Glenn (Marilyn) McGlaughlin and a very special and long-time friend, Bob Romine.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his loving wife of nearly 51 years, Dolores A. (Scott) McGlaughlin, whom he married June 20, 1959 and who died January 24, 2010; a daughter, Mary Lou Hodge; three brothers, William, Jack and Pat McGlaughlin and a sister, Donna Grant.
There will be no calling hours and burial will be in Hanover Cemetery.
Military honors and memorial services for Mr. McGlaughlin will be held at NOON, Saturday, June 16, 2018 at the Second Baptist Church, 19 West National Drive, Newark, Ohio.
