Jack Vaughn
April 6, 1927 - November 11, 2014

N.A. VAUGHN, known as "Pastor Jack", entered eternal life on Veteran's Day, Tuesday, Nov. 11, 2014 in Hemet, CA. Jack was a veteran of his Lord's Army!~

N.A. Vaughn, “Jack”, son, husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, Pastor, friend to all and loved by all that knew him, was the oldest of 5 children born to parents Newell and Opal Vaughn. Born in Tulsa, Oklahoma, he was raised all over; his family proud migrant workers, picking cotton and fruit across the country. The Vaughn family finally settled in Indio, California where Jack accepted Jesus Christ as his Savior at the age of 14. This acceptance laid the groundwork for his lifelong role as a servant of God.

Pastor Jack met the love of his life, Joanne Virginia Geimer, while traveling with a singing group after graduating from Biola University. She was teaching at a Vacation Bible School at the time. Jack went off to Brazil as a missionary and Joanne followed on a boat to meet him a few years later. They married one month later, on May 23, 1953 in Brazil. They had their first two children there before coming back to the United States 3 ½ years later; settling in Burbank where their 3rd and 4th children were born. Jack was a youth Pastor in Burbank for 5 years, then to Hemet (First Baptist Church of Hemet - Cornerstone) as a youth pastor for 5 more, on to Spokane, Washington (South Hill Bible Church) for 4 years youth pastoring there, then to Jackson, Michigan (New Tribes Bible Institute) for 10 years where he taught and led choir and Joanne was ‘Dean of Women’. In 1982, Jack and Joanne came back to Hemet where Jack served in various pastoral roles until his retirement in 2002 at age 75.

Pastor Jack left a godly legacy with his life. He is well known in Hemet where he served the community for many years from First Baptist Church of Hemet – Cornerstone. He visited countless numbers of people in their homes and in the hospital, and officiated over many funerals through the years. He enjoyed listening to southern gospel music, had an amazing voice and loved to sing. He and Joanne sang together and even recorded an album.

Pastor Jack was upbeat, happy, and had a great sense of humor. His wife describes him as ‘a wonderful love’. Together they enjoyed camping and simply getting out and about, taking numerous drives to Big Bear, Idyllwild, the beach, etc. The Vaughn family was always thanking the Lord for their blessings. Pastor Jack loved Jesus, his family, and people. He cared for others and did all he could to keep them smiling and laughing, often yodeling at unexpected times. He and his family had been laughing just hours before he was called home. Pastor Jack also enjoyed gardening and toll painting in his spare time. More recently, he enjoyed napping in his EZ Chair with his poodle ‘Bobbi Girl’.

Jack is survived by his wife of over 61 years, Joanne; children Debby (Jim), David (Tammy), Becky (Bob), and Heidi (Joe); 14 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren (+ 2 on the way); his brother Emmett (Debbie); his sister Helen; and brother-in-law Phil. He was preceded in death by his sisters Judy Smith and Florence Fowler, and brother-in-law Virgil Hively.

Pastor Jack’s life will be celebrated at 11 AM, Sat., Nov. 15, 2014 at Cornerstone Church in Hemet with a visitation prior at 10 AM. Committal prayers and interment will be at 10AM, Monday, November 17, 2014 at the San Jacinto Valley Cemetery in San Jacinto, CA. Arrangements entrusted to Matthew McWane – Director, Hemet Valley Mortuary, www.hemetvalleymortuary.com, 951-658-4433.
