LEWISTON - The Pushard and Churchill families suffered a terrible loss with the passing of Ann P. Churchill on Veterans Day, Tuesday, Nov. 11, 2014. What she meant to us was immeasurable.

Ann was born in Richmond on Jan. 9, 1927, a daughter of George H. Gilbert and Mildred P. (Crowell) Gilbert. Ann was educated in Richmond schools; she excelled in sports and was the captain of the Richmond High School basketball team. She graduated from Bliss College in 1945, and in July of that year, started working as a medical secretery for the Veterans Administration in Togus in the personnel office, General Medical Hospital and out-patient and orthopedic departments.

In 1952, she married M.W. George E. Pushard, grand master of the Grand Lodge of Maine Masons, and together they traveled extensively; he died in 1982.

Her volunteer work in the Lewiston area included the executive committee of the Parent-Teacher Association at the schools and president of the Lewiston High School Band Boosters. Ann also modeled for local clothing stores.

In 1987, she married Norton B. Churchill and they enjoyed many happy retirement years at Sebago Lake and in Lewiston: Norton died in 2009.

She is survived by her children: a son, Craig P. Pushard of Auburn and her daughter-in-law, Jan Plourde Pushard; a stepdaughter, Joan Pushard Scollo and her husband, William Scollo, of Nobleboro; grandsons, Matthew Pushard, Nathan Pushard, Christopher Scollo and Steven Scollo; her great-grandchildren, Anthony J. Scollo and Annabel Scollo; several wonderful nieces and nephews; and a godchild, Beverly Friend.

She was predeceased by her parents; a brother, Chief Arthur L. Gilbert, Navy retired of Virginia Beach, VA.; and her sisters, Mary L. Lynch and Ada Friend.

We'll miss her energy and passion for life; her pies, cookies, cakes, fudge and butterscotch squares; and most of all, her kindness and generosity. She was the best. The void she leaves cannot be filled.
