Services for James Robert “Bobby” Stroud, 88, of Palestine, Texas will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at First Christian Church of Oakwood with the Rev. Doug Stevens and the Rev. Jordan Byrd officiating. Burial will follow in Oakwood City Cemetery under the direction of Bailey & Foster, Palestine. Mr. Stroud died Tuesday, November 11th, at Greenbrier Nursing Facility. He was born September 7, 1926 in Oakwood, Texas to George Ethan, Jr. and Mamie Pitts Stroud. Mr. Stroud owned and operated Stroud Hardware and Lumber Company for 25 years. He also worked for Neel Chevrolet for 10 years. His first love was being a cattle rancher and was involved in some aspect of ranching since he was 12 years old. He graduated from Oakwood High School in 1943. During World War II, he was in the U.S. Merchant Marines and served his country on Okinawa. During the Korean War, he served as a Sergeant in the United States Army. He was a member of First Christian Church of Oakwood. His grandmother, Eliza Stroud, was a charter member of that church and his great-grandmother, Muhaulda Orenbaum, was one of the organizers of Mount Pisgah Baptist Church in Oakwood. Preceding him in death were his parents; a sister, Joan Stroud Eppler in 1999; and a brother George Ethan “Buzz” Stroud, III in 2013. Mr. Stroud is survived by his wife of 63 years Delores Sharp Stroud of Palestine; a son, James Robert “Jim Bob” Stroud, Jr. of Oakwood; a son George Timothy “Tim” Stroud and wife, Debi, of Justin; and a daughter, Virginia Stroud McCauley and husband Dale, of Colleyville; six grandchildren, Staci Stroud Rantala of Oakwood, Shana Stroud Todey of Aledo, Matt Stroud of Temple, Sawyer Stroud of Oakwood, Madison McCauley of Fort Worth and Ethan McCauley of Colleyville; six great-grandchildren, Tori Neel of Oakwood, Raeann Rantala of Oakwood, Andrew and Mackenzie Todey of Aledo and Lila and Carter Stroud of Temple; two nephews, John Robert Eppler of Alameda, CA and George Ethan Stroud, IV of Sugarland; several great- nieces, nephews and cousins. Pallbearers will be Bill Dorman, Brent Bing, John Robert Eppler, Mark Neel, Matt Stroud, Sawyer Stroud, George Ethan Stroud, IV and Brady Edwards. Honorary pallbearers, who were long-time childhood friends, will be Ben Booker, Bobby Moore and Robert Ray Tubbs. If desired, donations may be made in his memory to First Christian Church of Oakwood or Oakwood City Cemetery.
