Osvaldo B. Sartori, 92

July 21, 2011

CLARKSBURG, Mass. — Osvaldo B. "Aldo" Sartori, 92, of 3 Millard Ave. died Thursday, July 21, 2011, after a brief illness. A longtime musician, Mr. Sartori performed with The Aladdins for many years.
Born in North Adams on March 30, 1919 to Celestino and Josephine Ravizza Sartori, he attended local schools and Drury High School.

An Army veteran, he proudly served during World War II. After returning from a tour of Germany and Belgium with the "Red Ball Express" logistics mission, he held the honored position of band director for the 1st Army band at Fort Lee, Va.

Mr. Sartori was employed by the former Gale Shoe Co. in North Adams and then for many years by the former GE in Pittsield until his retirement. He also provided music lessons on several instruments including the accordion and keyboards to hundreds of local students.

He sang in the choir for many years at the former St. Anthony of Padua Church. He performed for more than 70 years, beginning in the 1930s, with the trumpet and for many years on keyboards with The Aladdins until very recently. He and the band performed a great deal of charity work throughout the Berkshires and Southern Vermont and were favorites at every local nursing home.

He and his wife, the fromer Doris Bona, were very active in charity work through the years. They worked to raise funds and participated in many outings and celebrations for developmentally disabled children. Mr. Sartori was recognized with many awards, and the couple was cited for their work in founding Northern Berkshire ARC in 1954.

Besides his wife of 62 years, he leaves three sons, Dennis Sartori and Robert Sartori, both of Clarksburg, and Mark Sartori of Great Barrington; a daughter, Carol Sartori Nelson of Newington, Conn.; his two beloved grandchildren, Elizabeth Resnisky and her husband, Matthew, of Deep River, Conn., and Christopher Nelson and his wife, Sarah, of Groton, Conn., and two great-granddaughters, Lucy Ann and Lily Margaret Resnisky, both of Deep River, who brought him great joy. He will be deeply missed by many nieces and nephews.

He was the predeceased by all of his siblings, Albena Sartori, in Italy, Frank Sartori, Elvina LeSage, Anita Benedetti, Viola Nugai and Florence Senecal, all late of North Adams, and Edmund Sartori, late of Harrisburg, Pa.

FUNERAL NOTICE — The funeral for Mr. Sartori will be... followed by a Funeral Mass at 11 from St. Elizabeth of Hungary Church. Burial will follow in Southview Cemetery.
