Ernest "Ernie" Rollin Bishop, Sr. Brattleboro Ernest "Ernie" Rollin Bishop, Sr., 94, formerly of Brattleboro, Vt., died peacefully Tuesday, March 24, 2009, in Amherst, Mass. He was born in New Haven, Vt., son of Rollin and Maggie Burns Bishop, Jr. on Aug. 5, 1914. Ernie served his country in the Navy during World War II. He formerly owned and operated the Railroad Diner in 1946 and worked as a cook for most of his life at the Royal Diner, Brooks Hotel and the Country Kitchen among other local restaurants. Mr. Bishop was married to the former Jane Forques, and has enjoyed the last 31 years with his companion Sylvia Poirier. Ernie enjoyed bingo, dog racing and traveling with Sylvia. Ernie leaves his companion Sylvia Poirier, four sons; Thomas, Ernest Jr., Rollin, & John and two daughters; Darlene Bishop and Tina Murphy, several grandchildren and great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. Ernie also leaves his caregiver Christine Beausoleil, her husband, Michael of Colrain, Mass., and their children, Amy Papay and her husband Brian, Kara Gulotta, & Amberlyn and Nicholas Beausoleil. FUNERAL NOTICE: A graveside service will be held at the families convenience later this spring. There are no calling hours.
