Eugene Allee died Thursday, Nov. 6, 2014, at Kingman's hospital at the age of 86. He was born April 17, 1928, in St. Louis, Mo., the son of Arble and Alveda Allee.

Eugene lived part of his childhood with his grandparents and their family on a farm in Stoutland, Mo.

Gene spent most of his teen years in San Francisco, Calif. After a term in the Merchant Marines, he joined his father in San Diego, Calif., later moving to La Habra, Calif. where they lived for some time. He lived in California, Texas and Arizona, where he and his wife of 29 years, Joanne, retired.

Eugene worked for Chevron Oil Co. in his early years before driving 18-wheelers across country for several years. He also had a gas station for a time and did some mechanical work for his customers on occasion. For several years, Gene worked for General Telephone and Electric Co. and in his later years had the misfortune of having an accident at work. He was confined to computer work after his recovery, which he continued doing for about three years until his retirement.

His dream to move to Oregon among the fir trees where he had purchased some acreage failed after a heart attack caused some rethinking because of the great deal of work that property's needs might entail, and though he would have been right at home there since "work" was almost his middle name, it was necessary to make new plans and a desert home seemed appropriate.

Gene's main hobby was anything to do with work. He loved working in the soil, growing roses, fruit trees or even onions. He enjoyed tinkering with automobiles and wanted to work on old cars, such as the '39 Chevy he pulled here from a barn out in Utah. Due to neck surgery, he gave up the idea of carrying his mechanical abilities very far, though he still dealt with repairs and needs of a home.

He had also enjoyed several years of RVing and always loved traveling.

Eugene is survived by his fiancé, Peggy Sollars; daughters, Claudeia Grigor of the United Kingdom, Cynthia Anderson of Arkansas and Deborah Davis of California; two stepchildren, Kelley Paystrup of Utah and Bryan Fogarty of Pennsylvania; grandchildren; and great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Arble Allee and Alveda O'Connor, as well as his wife, Joanne Allee.

When Gene gets to Heaven, he will probably want to shine up the stars and sweep the dust off the angels' wings. He was a worker and he was always a helpful neighbor and a joy to anyone in need. He will surely be missed, but never forgotten.

Viewing and services will begin at 10 a.m. at the Grace Lutheran Church, 2101 Harrison St., on Friday, Nov. 14.
