Obituary for Virginia R. Houston

Virginia R. Houston, 96, a life long Rush County resident, passed away November 11, 2014 in Morristown. She was born July 19, 1918 in Rush County to Edward A. & Essie (Seright) Richey. Virginia was a 1936 graduate of Manilla High School. She married Francis O. Houston on May 29, 1939 and he preceded her in death on December 22, 1983.

Virginia & Francis owned & operated Houston Service Station in Homer from 1952-1978. She was also a clerk & Post Master at the Homer Post Office for 20 years and helped with managing Houston Trucking and the family farm. She was a member of DAR, NAPAS & the Rebekah Lodge. She was an avid reader & enjoyed working crossword puzzles.

She is survived by her sons, Nelson (Brenda) Houston of Homer & William R. (Susan) Houston of Moscow, daughter-in-law, Mary Sheehan of Rushville, half-sisters, Mary Ellen Norwald of Greensburg & Gladys Fussner of Milroy, 5 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, 2 sons, 4 brothers & 4 sisters.

Graveside services will be held at 11 AM Thursday, November 13, 2014 in the Hurst Cemetery near Homer. Helen Hamilton will preside.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Rushville Public Library or the American Cancer Society.
