Helen applied for a passport in November 1922. Her statement was she had married June 8, 1872 at San Antonio, Texas to Alexander L. Lucas. He was born in Hasse Darmstadt, Prussia. His age was 27 and he told her he was employed by the United States Government as a civil engineer and draftsman.
She also stated that she now believed him to be dead because there had been no communication with him since 1898. At that time, they had an 11 year old child. Her information was verified by her sister, Annie (or perhaps Carrie) R. Prine who stated her date of birth was June 25, 1856 and that she was the widow of Edward Prine who was at one time United States Consul at San Domingo.
Helen's application was for a year's travel to Spain, Italy, France, British Isles. She left Dec. 6, 1922 and returned May 25, 1923 on the ship Mauretania.
