Carl E. DeWitt, 84, of Keokuk, died at 4:17 AM Monday, November 10, 2014, at River Hills Village in Keokuk.

Carl was born February 2, 1930, in Keokuk, Iowa, a son of Lester and Grace Beaird DeWitt. He was united in marriage to Doris Basket on September 13, 1952, in Keokuk, Iowa. She preceded him in death on November 6, 1996.

A lifelong resident of Keokuk, Carl was employed as a meter repairman for the Keokuk Municipal Water Works for sixteen years and a member of the Anchor of Hope Church. He was a follower of Nascar and had a love of flying airplanes and learning. He received his pilot's license in 1968, and he enjoyed spending his time reading Western stories and watching the History Channel.

Carl is survived by his daughter Barbara (Don) Rash, his son John (Bobbi) DeWitt, and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Carl was preceded in death by his parents and his wife Doris.

A graveside service will be held at 3 PM on Thursday, November 13, 2014, at Sunset Memorial Park in Keokuk.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association.
