Johannes KOLB, born 19 May 1683 at Wolfsheim, Germany (KH) died 31 Jan 1759 at South Carolina (Bible record of son Martin Kolb). Nickname: "Colonel John." Johannes Kolb (a weaver), son of Dielman (1648-1712) and Agnus Kolb (1652-1705)...both of Wolfsheim, came to America in 1707 with his brothers Martin and Jacob.

I created a "Coming to America" story page: http://www.theeffectivetruth.info/bigstory.html

They first settled in Germantown and by 1709 had moved to Skippack, PA, which is now in Montgomery Co, PA. There, according to a deed dated 15 Dec 1709, he purchased 150 acres of land. He also owned land in Coventry Township in Chester County (KH). Of all of his siblings, he was the only one apparently not active in the Mennonite Church & sold his land in Pa. sometime after 1734; and the family sold the farm and moved south by ship to Charleston or down the Shenandoah Valley with Scotch-Irish, Welsh, and German pioneers to South Carolina. He received a grant of 650 acres in the Cashaway/Causeway neck of the Pee Dee River in 1737, and the family made their home there between 1737 and 1742. The homestead was located on Cashaway/Causeway Neck, now Byrd's Island, on a plot north of the loop but south of Sugar Loaf. He anglicized his name to John

He and wife, Sarah, had nine children: Tilman (the anglicized version of Dielman...spelled with one "l" in some land records and two "l"s in others, according to the detailed Kolb genealogy typed up in 1984 by Margaret Jean McNair), Mary, Mahitabel, Martin, Hannah, Henry, Peter, Sarah, and Jacob.

Archeological Dig: Interestingly, the home area is an official archeological dig in S. C. called The Johannes Kold Archeological Site:
